ISI/DI: This headline could be a bit misleading. Discussions included Iran as well as the Accords, but not Iran and the Accords.

Having worked at the State Department, I have personal feelings about Jake Sullivan and his roles with Hilary Clinton, the Clinton Foundation, the Russia collusion story against former President Trump, and the Benghazi affair. Let that be enough said.

I find it interesting, though, that the Biden administration may do some follow-up work with the ‘Accords.’ If so, that could be a good thing. The push has slowed with the ‘Accords,’ and may face some difficulties getting reignited. It will take a special person with a unique interest and vision to pull future players back to the table.

ISI/DI: It wasn’t clear to me why Turkish politicians were making statements in Germany. While I find their words inflammatory, they are never-the-less, abundantly clear with the general statements overall of radical Islam. I have no question though, that given enough time and pursuit, they will meet the West head on if they choose to follow on with this kind of rhetoric and threat of actions.

ISI/DI: It was my hope that Turkey — i.e., Erdogan — would take a more conciliatory view towards Sweden and their desire to join NATO. However, that does not seem to be the case.

I am not a book burner and do not encourage others to do so, but there are nations and lives that could be at risk here. If a foe were to drop bombs on and invade Turkey (a NATO member), I suspect they would welcome the response of Sweden as well as other NATO members coming to their defense.

ISI/DI: The Brits have a term — a “sticky wicket” — and I think that may be what we have here. Has Turkey been holding up it’s vote using Sweden as a pawn in order to acquire some F-16s?

The question is still out there — who is Erdogan? Is he the buddy of Russia’s Putin? Is he the new caliph of,the new Ottoman Empire? Or, is he the steadfast member of NATO?
