ISRAEL AT WAR
Things have moved very fast today. What information I have received comes in so quickly …… and then stops. Most of those I normally hear from have been extremely quiet. I’m guessing that’s because this is the weekend and offices are closed. My reporting comes from places that are behind the scenes and that’s a whole different world than the big name carriers of cable and national news organizations.
At any rate, I will provide what ever relevant information that I can obtain, without bombarding your mailboxes every fifteen minutes.
My wife and I lived in israel from 2002 until 2004. It was our first post with the Foreign Service. When we arrived it was during the Second Intifada, also known as the Al-Aqsa Intifada, which was a period of intensified Israeli-Palestinian violence, which began in late September 2000 and ended around 2005.
Things had gotten so bad at one point during our time there that all non-essential staff and families of those who were essential were evacuated back to the States. Evacuees are not always sent back to the States, but usually to the nearest place within reason. There was a fair amount of debriefing to be done though, and stateside was the most logical place.
The Second Intifada was a major Palestinian uprising against Israel. The general triggers for the unrest are thought to have been centered on the failure of the 2000 Camp David Summit, which was expected to reach a final agreement on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process in July 2000. Outbreaks of violence began in September 2000, after Ariel Sharon, then the Israeli leader made a provocative visit to the Al-Aqsa compound on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem; the visit itself was peaceful, but, as anticipated, sparked protests and riots that Israeli police put down with rubber bullets and tear gas.
Most of the activity took place outside of Tel Aviv, where the American Embassy was at that time. However, a small deli-sandwich shop located two doors down from the US Embassy and often frequented by Americans and Israelis alike, was bombed not too long before our final departure in 2004.
On the current situation, the last report I heard was 2,500 Israeli’s killed and hundreds of Hamas. I do not have a source on this. However, figures are changing rapidly, and not always up to date. One source may have what it believes is current data, only to be corrected by another source.

My information tells me the above statement is, in fact …… true. So what? Too many times we find more and more reasons to distrust the media and our government, because of biased decisions rather than truth, honest, and ethical decisions or orders.

Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi tells residents to stay in their homes behind locked doors and not open them until instructed otherwise, as Israeli security forces work to find and apprehend an unknown number of Palestinian terrorists who infiltrated this morning from Gaza into Israeli communities and gunned down people in the streets and in their homes.
Rocket sirens sound in Sderot, Kibbutz Nir Am
Sirens warning of incoming rocket attacks sound again in southern Israel. They are heard in Sderot, Kibbutz Nir Am, Yad Mordechai, and Netiv Ha’asara, all near the Gaza Strip.
Earlier overnight, a home in Sderot suffered a direct rocket hit, causing no injuries but significant damage.
Woman seriously injured in rocket hit in Ashkelon, five more lightly wounded
The Magen David Adom ambulance services says a 50-year-old woman was seriously injured in a rocket attack in Ashkelon tonight, and five other sustained light injuries.
