IS A NEW INTIFADA COMING? … Here’s The Story …
ISI/DI: Yes … but not quite yet. First, what is an intifada?Intifada or intifadah, was either of two popular uprisings of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip aimed at ending Israel’s occupation of those territories and creating an independent Palestinian state. The first intifada began in December 1987 and ended in September 1993 with the signing of the first Oslo Accords, which provided a framework for peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. The second intifada, sometimes called the Al-Aqṣā intifada, began in September 2000. Although no single event signaled the end, most analysts agree that it had run its course by late 2005. The two uprisings resulted in the death of more than 5,000 Palestinians and some 1,400 Israelis.
We lived in Israel from 2002 until 2004 and were also evacuated out for three months during the Spring of 2003, during the Second Intifada. Our two years there were nothing but fantastic, although, the terrorism and the war against it were always just a short distance away. Our memories are filled with every shop maintaining their own security — usually an armed guard with an AK47 type device. They were very obvious, standing at the entrance, civilian clothes for the most part. They were there to be seen, an act of deterrence. And they were everywhere.
However, that did not stop the terrorism. A small sandwich shop, two doors up from the American Embassy in downtown Tel-Aviv, visited by locals and Americans, was targeted. I am not aware of any deaths … but it was a small shop, lots of people.
Without a doubt, though, the most memorable portions of our time there were visiting Jerusalem and other biblical places … seeing where Jesus walked, where Moses used his staff to strike for water, the Sea of Galilee … and of course, Masada. There was so much history there, in such a small country.
That was life in Israel after 9/11 … and it became part of our life and history.

ISI/DI: While the courts are following what the law says, they may also be determining Sweden’s future when it comes to becoming a member of NATO. Thus far, Turkey has been unrelenting in its bid to deny the membership Sweden so desperately seeks as a defense in case of more Russian aggression.

ISI/DI: The Taliban is refusing to make good on its promise of protecting women and girls, denying them education and freedom to move about. There is no protection for them in Afghanistan.

ISI/DI: Iran has not actually joined the “Club” yet. It’s on-again, off-again, mostly because Iran keeps moving the goal-posts.
