ISI/DI: Indonesia — home to more Muslims than any country in the world — 242.7 million for 2025. That is approximately 1/8 of all Muslims, located in this SE Asia island chain. While legally a secular state, the province of Aceh applies Shari’a law.  Even though the majority of Indonesia is Muslim, the country’s constitution guarantees freedom of religion and does not make Islam the state religion.  Aceh, however, was granted special autonomy in 2001 and 2005, allowing it to implement Shari’a law in certain areas, particularly criminal law.

In 1993 a group of Christian business individuals asked me to do a seminar on Values In The Marketplace. I was amazed at the number of men and women who attended this two-day event. It was held at the Hotel Borobudur Jakarta.

Looking back all these years later, reflecting — it seems they sensed what was coming. Not exactly, but I believe they were seeing things take place within their own culture and communities which were giving them a premonition of what the future would hold. The questions they asked ……… as if they expected or maybe just hoped I could give answers to what they were seeking.

In 1993 their constitution gave some amount of protection, which I believe has eroded some what today, giving way to the more radical form of Islam we are now all too familiar with.

ISI/DI: From 1998 to 2001, I lived and worked in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia in the area of Small Enterprise Development. The mission agency I was with took my wife and me along with a few other Country Managers on a trip that covered several Southeast Asian countries — Thailand, Laos, and Bangladesh.

There was a Muslim presence in Bangladesh, but not overly so. The guys with beards, the women wore the obvious head-scarf. Once, there was a fully robed and veiled Muslima. I knew if there was one, there was bound to be more. But, you have to remember this was before 9/11 and there was very little to be concerned about. From our visit that day things were relatively quiet. I say relatively because there was the normal traffic one might find in any capitol city or large city in the developing world.

I know things are much different today. Islam, and mainly radical Islam, has entrenched itself. Bangladesh is not yet an Islamic country, but it is a Muslim dominated country, with the promises of Shari’a law just around the corner.

ISI/DI: The Muslim land grab just outside of Dallas is still making the headlines, and it’s my guess it will continue to be for quite sometime to come. The Muslims are flush with cash, probably have some high-priced lawyers.

In the last issue I outlined what the Texas government — Governor Abbott and Paxton — is doing to try and thwart the efforts but it’s likely to take a great deal of time unless wrongdoing can be found and found quickly.
